Thinking about buying an Infiniti G37? Compare it to a BMW 135i first!

The BMW 135i Overview

The 1 Series positions BMW's product offerings into a market segment where BMW has not had a presence in recent years. The 1 Series puts BMW squarely into competition with some models that haven't been considered BMW competitors before, and gives BMW a more favorable price point against some that were. Here's a field of key competitors for the two 1 Series Coupe models; click on the model for a brief analysis of how BMW's new compact Coupes stack up against each of their key rivals.

The Infiniti G37 Overview

Some see the G37 as a 3 Series competitor; in terms of size it is. Price-wise it's more of a 135i rival - which reminds us that Infiniti may offer "more," but BMW offers "better." G37 comes in an oddly restrictive set of models: base at $34,965 with automatic transmission only; $35,715 Journey, with upgraded equipment (some of which is standard on 135i, like dual-zone climate control and auto headlight control). At the top is the $36,265 Sport, with 19-in. wheels, sport suspension and manual transmission only; this analysis focuses on the Sport. A moonroof, standard on 1 Coupes, is optional on G37s. Infiniti's rear backrest folds as one piece, BMW's is split for greater versatility. Not only is the 135i Coupe quicker, more agile and better-finished, it also offers a freer choice of transmissions and options.
